FAQ
Questions, answered.
How we work, what we need from you and what you get back. If your question isn’t here, ask the assistant in the corner or send us a brief.
Getting started
What services does CFD Pro offer?
We provide computational fluid dynamics (CFD), heat-transfer, multiphase and computational quantum chemistry (CQC) simulation: external aerodynamics, internal flows, thermal management, turbulent and unsteady flows, HVAC and ventilation, and DFT-based molecular modelling. We also take solving requests for existing cases that will not mesh, converge or validate.
See the full list on our services page.
How do I get started?
Fill in the project brief. Choose whether it is a project order, a solving request or a consultation, describe the problem and add whatever technical detail you have. We reply with a proposed approach, scope and quote.
What information do you need from me?
The more we know, the sharper our first reply. The most useful inputs are:
- Geometry: CAD, drawings or even a dimensioned sketch
- Operating conditions: flow rates, pressures, temperatures, heat loads, speeds
- Fluids and materials
- The question the simulation should answer, and the decision it supports
- Any test data or references to validate against
If you do not have everything, send what you have and we will work out the rest together.
Which industries do you work with?
Aerospace, automotive, energy, HVAC, process engineering and research & development. The physics is shared across sectors, so if your problem involves fluid flow, heat transfer or molecular behaviour, we can very likely help. Our case studies show representative work.
What files can I upload with the brief?
CAD and mesh files (STEP, IGES, STL and similar), drawings, images, PDFs, spreadsheets and ZIP archives: up to 5 files and 15 MB in total. For anything larger, paste a link to a shared folder in the brief.
How can I talk to someone?
Email [email protected] or call +91 73990 03366. If you send a project brief first, tell us how and when you prefer to be reached and we will come back to you that way.
Scope, cost and delivery
How much does a study cost?
It depends on the physics, the complexity of the geometry, the mesh size, the number of cases and the deliverables you need. A single steady-state case costs far less than a transient or parametric campaign.
Send a project brief with as much detail as you can and we will reply with a quote for a defined scope. If you have a budget in mind, tell us and we will shape the study around it.
How long does a project take?
It depends on the physics and the number of cases. A single steady-state study is much quicker than a transient, multiphase or parametric campaign. We confirm the timeline in the proposal, so tell us your deadline in the brief.
What will I receive at the end?
Deliverables are agreed in the proposal. Typically: a technical report covering the approach, mesh and convergence evidence, results and interpretation; visualisations and animations; processed data; and practical recommendations. Tell us in the brief if you also need the simulation case files or publication-ready figures.
Can you help with a simulation that will not converge?
Yes. Send it as a solving request: tell us what is going wrong, the software and version, mesh size and models, and attach or link the case. We diagnose the setup, fix what is wrong and explain what we changed.
Do you work with researchers, students and start-ups?
Yes. We work with companies, start-ups, academic researchers and students. Tell us who you are enquiring as in the brief so we can shape the scope and deliverables to suit, for example publication-ready figures for a paper or thesis.
Where are you based, and who is behind CFD Pro?
We are based in Tamil Nadu, India. CFD Pro is a part of HexaInd Technologies and Services LLP.
Projects run remotely: briefs, files, progress updates and result reviews all happen online, so your location is rarely a constraint.
Methods and accuracy
What is CFD, and when is it worth doing?
Computational fluid dynamics solves the equations of fluid motion and heat transfer on a computer, giving you velocity, pressure and temperature everywhere in a system rather than at a few sensor locations.
It is worth doing when testing is slow, expensive or cannot show what is happening inside; when you need to compare design options before building them; or when you need to understand why something underperforms.
What is computational quantum chemistry, and when do I need it?
Computational quantum chemistry (CQC) calculates the behaviour of molecules from their electronic structure, most often with density functional theory (DFT). It answers questions that continuum simulation cannot: stable molecular geometries, how strongly species interact, and the energy barriers of reaction steps.

RANS, LES or DES: which turbulence model do I need?
It depends on the question. Steady RANS is efficient for mean forces, pressure drop and heat transfer in attached flows. Hybrid (DES) and scale-resolving (LES) methods cost far more, and earn it when unsteady structures, massive separation or fluctuating loads drive the answer.
We explain the trade-offs in RANS, LES or DES?
How do you make sure the results are accurate?
Converged is not the same as correct. We check sensitivity to the mesh, monitor the quantities that matter rather than residuals alone, test sensitivity to modelling choices and compare with test data or established correlations wherever they exist. The evidence goes into the report.
Which software and file formats do you work with?
We choose the solver to suit the physics and your workflow. In the brief, tell us which tools and file formats your team uses (for example STEP or IGES geometry, existing meshes or case files) and whether you need the case files back. We confirm the best fit in the proposal.
Compute and confidentiality
What computing resources do you use?
We run on high-performance computing sized for each project. We have HPC tie-ups with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, IBM Cloud, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, and we can connect projects to India’s national compute programmes: the IndiaAI compute programme and the National Supercomputing Mission.

Can the work run on our own cloud account or cluster?
Tell us in the Compute section of the brief whether you would like us to arrange compute or to use your own cloud account or cluster, and we will plan the project around it.
Is my data kept confidential? Can we sign an NDA?
Yes. Your geometry, data and results are treated as confidential, and we are happy to sign an NDA before you share details. Choose “NDA required first” in the brief and we will arrange it before any files change hands.
LET’S SOLVE SOMETHING
Still have a question?
Ask us directly.
Tell us what you’re working on. A few minutes on the project brief gives us what we need to reply with an approach, a scope and a quote.
